Laze in the shade of palm tree whilst the kids have more fun than you thought was possible in the saltwater pool right next to you. Lunch takes on a whole new meaning when you can fire up the barbecue for delicious marinated steaks, and devour them at the outdoor dining table on Villa Oleander’s shady terrace.

The house has been renovated to provide 21st century comforts such as Wi-Fi and satellite TV, whilst neutral tones enhance the elegance of original features such as stone walls and exposed wooden beams. Sophisticated splashes of turquoise and quirky modern furniture give it a designer feel, without detracting from its character. The living and dining rooms can be combined to create one large living space. Open the French windows and step out on to the verandah to feel the invigorating, salty sea breeze on your skin.

The villa itself sleeps five guests in three bedrooms in the main house plus there is a substantial guesthouse/suite for two adults and two children, facing the sea with a further bedroom and expandable sofa bed. Several of the bedrooms look out to sea – there’s surely no finer sight to wake to each morning.

Sitting out in the quiet of the evening by the pool with a glass of wine, as the stars come out one by one, you might be the last people on earth, yet all the amenities of charming town Orebić is just a short walk away.

This picturesque sunny place was the town of sea captains and sailors. Many documents and various articles from its famous seafaring past can be found in the Maritime museum. Situated in the south western part of Pelješac peninsula, it lies at the bottom of the St. Elias hill. Orebić has some of the best beaches in southern Dalmatia – sandy coves bordered by groves of tamarisk and pine. Only 2.5km across the water from Korčula Town, it makes a perfect day trip or an alternative base.
